ISS Vengeance

The Luna-class began during the late 2370s at the Jupiter Station Starship Design lab. With the ever-expanding borders of the Empire, and the need for long-distance response to possible threats, Fleet Command wanted a starship that was capable of long-range reconnaissance, and had the ability to hold it's own until back-up could arrive.

Captain Lauren Whitt was the lead designer on the project - at the time, SCI Code-named "Far Sight" - and oversaw the development of the ship's superstructure, and system layout. The USS Luna, NX-85000 was launched for preliminary shake-down trials in 2384.

The ship proved to be more than capable of handling tactical wargame encounters, and the advanced sensor abilities were clearly in evidence. The shakedown was declared a success, and the Luna-class was officially put into production.

Within just a couple of years, with engineering teams working around the clock, four Luna-class ships were commissioned. A fifth, the ISS Stellarum, NCC-85020 developed numerous complications during construction, and was ultimately scrapped.

ISS Deadeye - NCC-85010
ISS Videntis - NCC-85030
ISS Raleigh - NCC-85040
ISS Aubry - NCC-85050

After the shattering of Earth, and the Empire's shift to close-range defence, construction of the Luna-class was put on hold for a time. It was in 2391 that Rear Admiral Lucas DeBries ordered a number of vessels to be built, including the ISS Vengeance, NCC-85042.
